Young people from Wards 6 and 11 heeded the call to take charge of development in their communities.

The youth of the two wards gathered at the Extension 6 Indoor Sports Centre on Thursday, 08 June to elect their respective Ward Forums. Both groups were able to elect 5 representatives for each Ward to serve in the War Forum.

Young people from both wards showed great interest in the initiative so much that all the representatives who were elected volunteered to serve in the Ward Forums. The meetings are also used to motivate young people by opening their eyes to the endless possibilities at their disposal. Some of the work that the elected representatives are going to do involves being trained to find opportunities and funding to assist their peers.

The next youth meeting will take place at the Foley’s Ground Indoor Sport Centre (Epakeni) on Monday, 12 June 2023. The youth of Wards 7 & 9 will elect their representatives on the day.

Once all the Ward Forums have been elected, they will all meet with the Executive Mayor, Councillor Yandiswa Vara at the City Hall on 16 June 2023 as the Makana Youth Forum. More details to be provided about the activities planned for Youth Day (16 June).
