Nelson Mandela Day Poster 2023 FINAL
Makana Local Municipality in collaboration with Standard Bank are embarking on a programme called the Little Library Books for Primary schools as part of the Mandela month and back to school campaign.

As the sponsors of the programme Standard Bank has funded the purchase of the books.

This year the focus is on primary schools as part of promoting the culture of reading with understanding, especially in the lower grades.

The Little Library Life Skills Kit focuses on promoting life skills to learners of five to nine years of age. Standard Bank has sourced the books from Cambridge Book Publishers in order to make sure they are Caps aligned. Each school will be getting two sets of Little Library Life Skills Kit (i.e. 2 X 60 Readers, 12 colour posters, 1 Teacher’s Guide for each school).

This is part of Standard Bank’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme which prioritises better access to education. The bank’s intention is to support South Africa’s economic and social transformation, by helping our country’s children develop the skills and knowledge they’ll need for a new world of work.
The following schools will benefit from the programme: CM Vellem Primary School; Riebeek East Combined School; Samuel Ntlebi Primary School and DD Siwisa Primary School.

Books will be donated according to the schedule below:

VENUE : Riebeek East Combined School 08h00 – 09h00
: DD Siwisa Primary School 10h30 – 11h30
: Samuel Ntlebi and CM Vellem 12h00 – 13h00

Shortly after donating the books the Executive Mayor Councillor Yandiswa Vara will visit Nombulelo Senior Secondary School, which performed very well in a national choral music competition to donate a keyboard to the choir. The Nombulelo boys choir emerged runners up in their category at the South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE).

Issued by the Makana Municipality Communications Office.
