Makana Local Municipality held its second Annual Prayer Service at the City Hall on Wednesday, 22 February 2022.

The inaugural event took place at the Extension 6 Indoor Sports Center in 2022. The Prayer Service is organised by the municipality’s Health and Wellness Office to uplift demoralised municipal staff members who are tasked with the job of bringing services to local communities. The programme was a mixture of music, motivation, spirituality and inspiration. The spiritual aspect of the event was conducted by various church leaders led by Bishop Bongani Mcuba.

Corporate and Shared Services Portfolio Chairperson Councillor Ramie Xonxa expressed concern and disappointment at the level of attendance by municipal employees, indicating that poor attendance was an issue in the inaugural service as well. Explaining the purpose of the event on Wednesday, Ms Boniwe Zono who works in the municipality’s Human Resources Department said employees of Makana Local Municipality are demoralised, adding that this needs to change. Ms Zono said something needs to be done to revive the spirit of public service in the institution.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Ms Nomfundo Ntsangani appealed to employees who were in attendance to strive to work towards making a positive impact in the municipality. The CFO also shared her own professional work experience to motivate and inspire the employees, saying that we must all have the belief and desire to one day say: “we were responsible for bringing positive change to Makana Local Municipality”.

The Service was Chaired by Mr Lonwabo Sandi who brought along the Khutliso Daniels Secondary School Choir to entertain the employees.
