Makana Local Municipality together with its partners believe that the only way to make significant progress in road repairs is to work together. The work that’s currently taking place in High Street is a great way to demonstrate this collaborative effort.
This Morning Mayoral Committee Members led by the Executive Mayor Councillor Yandiswa Vara and Council Speaker Councillor Mabhuti Matyumza were onsite to demonstrate their commitment to the collaboration.
The Municipality together with the National Arts Festival which administers the Social Employment Fund (SEF) locally have collaborated to repair roads. The SEF is a fund that is part of the Presidential stimulus package unveiled by President Cyril Ramaphosa in October 2020 to offset the economic impact of COVID-19.
Mayoral Committee members in attendance were Engineering and Infrastructural Services Portfolio Chairperson Councillor Gcobisa Mene, Corporate and Shared Services Portfolio Chairperson Councillor Ramie Xonxa, Finance Portfolio Chairperson Councillor Andile Hoyi and Local Economic Development Portfolio Chairperson Councillor Mzobanzi Nkwentsha. Municipal Manager Mr Pumelelo Kate was also in attendance as well as the Manager in the Mayor’s Office Mr Vukile Wali and Roads and Stormwater Manager Ms Azola Thembani.
The Executive Mayor said that this kind of approach will be taken to repair roads going forward. “Collaboration will be the main theme in addressing future road infrastructure challenges”. More updates will be issued as the road repairs move from one street to the other.
