LET’S KEEP OUR COMMUNITY CLEAN AND SAFE

Makana Local Municipality is committed to cleaning up the illegal dumping sites all around our community. However, if we want to see real results we also have to play our part.

Illegal dump sites are a direct result of knowingly dumping domestic refuse in areas that are not meant for dumping. This creates a health hazard for the community, environment and animals. This also creates a financial burden on the municipality because of the cost of clearing illegal dumping sites. Clearing illegal dumping sites is expensive.

This week Makana LM cleared a massive pile of rubbish around the JD Dlepu stadium in Joza. JD Dlepu is a recreational facility that is currently being used by the community and young people to play sport.

Executive Mayor Cllr Yandiswa Vara encouraged residents of the area to ensure that no illegal dumping takes place in their area. “Please make sure that no one will dump refuse in that place anymore. This is our town we must be responsible for keeping it clean.”

Makana LM would like to appeal to the community to guard against dumping in that cleaned up space around the stadium to ensure that the area can remain clean. Let’s work together to keep our communities clean and safe.
