BUILDING INSPECTION CAMPAIGN

The Executive Mayor, Councillor Yandiswa Vara and Local Economic Development and Planning Portfolio Chairperson Councillor Mzobanzi Nkwentsha joined the Local Economic and Planning Department (LED) in a Campaign to inspect local business around town on Tuesday, 25 April 2023.

Some of the department’s roles include the approval process of building plan applications and the enforcement of statutory requirements regulating buildings, in terms of the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act (Act 103 of 1977). It ensures that all applicable legislation and other relevant standards are conformed with. The Department also regulates the Outdoor Advertising, Heritage and Building Aesthetics in the municipal area in terms of the By-law.

Officials from the Department were led by the Director, Ms Ntomboxolo Eddie as they went from one business to another checking the state of the buildings and what they are zoned for. Non-complying businesses were instructed to ensure that they comply with the necessary regulations.
