POWER OUTAGE

Dear residents

Please note that the power outage that affected most of the western side of town last night was caused by the failure of the Waainek transformer.

Our electricians have been working feverishly from about 7.20pm to the early hours of this morning assessing the damage and restoring power to the affected areas. The electricians reacted quickly and managed to stabilise the substation.

Power has been restored to the following areas: Rhodes University, Hill 60, West Hill, Top of High Street, Industrial area and surrounding farms, Howieson’s Poort line which includes Mountain Drive, Settler’s Monument, Makana Resort, Salem Cross, Thomas Baines and surrounding farms.

Work is currently underway to restore power to customers that are fed by the Extension substation. These areas include: Hare, Jacques, Mother Pike, Worcester, Revert, Bond, etc. This is the last group to be connected to the grid.

This morning the team will conduct a thorough assessment with the assistance of an external service provider which is expected to arrive this morning.

Residents are urged to use electricity sparingly during this period. Customers who remain without electricity must report it to the electricity department or on www.mobisam.net.

We will issue more updates as they become available.

Issued by the Makana Communications Office.
