The Local Economic Development & Planning unit of Makana Local Municipality is responsible for driving sustainable economic growth, attracting investment, and creating jobs across Makhanda and the surrounding areas. It focuses on creating an enabling environment for businesses, supporting SMMEs, and strengthening key economic sectors identified in the municipality’s development strategies

LED & Planning also plays a key role in spatial planning, land-use management, and the development of long‑term economic strategies through the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and the Spatial Development Framework (SDF). These tools ensure coordinated development, efficient land use, and alignment between economic priorities and municipal planning.
