NEW TRUCK ‘S MAIN PURPOSE IS TO ADDRESS ILLEGAL DUMPING
Makana Local Municipality recently received a new skip loader truck from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment.
The new truck’s main purpose is to clear illegal dumping sites and for non-domestic waste such as building rubble, unwanted furniture and goods, garden refuse, etc.
There are a total of about 117 illegal dumping sites all around Makana LM. As a result of this the municipality needed this kind of vehicle to focus mainly on clearing all the illegal dumpsites.
There seems to be confusion on social media regarding the use of this truck, and this is understandable. However, it is important to explain that it is our compaction trucks that need repairs, not the new truck, hence the delay in daily refuse collection.
The new truck has not started working yet, we await the arrival of the skip/container for the truck which is expected to arrive in July 2022.
Domestic refuse will continue to be collected from 7.30am to 4.30pm daily.
