Makana Municipality received much-needed support from the Gift of the Givers (GoG) as a result of an initiative of the Council Speaker. This was during the period where the municipality was facing a double blow as a result of the James Kleynhans Water Treatment Works which was not operational and the dams feeding the Western side of town being critically low. The support came in handy and helped the Makana citizenry. GoG drilled boreholes, they also assisted with carting water and supplied large amounts of bottled water. The support provided by GoG during a difficult period was and still is highly appreciated by Council. Presently the municipality is looking into the connection of boreholes to the Makana water system. Makana has appointed a consultant for an Underground Water Study and registering the boreholes. No contractor has been appointed by the municipality for the drilling of boreholes and is engaging in Supply Chain Management processes to equip and connect boreholes that have been drilled to date. Discussions are ongoing with GoG with the hopes of clearing up any misunderstandings.
