This Directorate exists to plan, develop, operate, and maintain the physical infrastructure that supports the functioning of the municipality and the well-being of its residents.

Core Responsibilities

1. Infrastructure Planning & Development

  • Design and implement new infrastructure projects (e.g. roads, bridges, water pipelines, sewage systems).
  • Align infrastructure development with urban growth and development plans.

2. Maintenance of Existing Infrastructure

  • Regular inspection, repair, and upgrading of roads, stormwater systems, water and sanitation networks, etc.
  • Ensure reliability and safety of infrastructure assets.

3. Engineering Services

  • Provide civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering expertise.
  • Review development applications and ensure compliance with engineering standards and regulations.

4. Service Delivery Support

  • Ensure uninterrupted water supply, sanitation services, and stormwater drainage.
  • Respond to infrastructure-related service delivery complaints.

5. Project Management

  • Oversee municipal infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.

6. Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure that all engineering works comply with municipal, provincial, and national legislation and standards.

7. Sustainable Development

  • Incorporate green infrastructure, climate resilience, and environmentally sustainable practices in infrastructure planning.
