The Youth Forum of Makana Local Municipality was inducted in the Council Chambers at the City Hall on Thursday, 28 September 2023.
During the induction the Department of Employment and Labour and the Department of Agriculture made presentations about their youth programmes and presented possible opportunities to the newly-formed structure. The Youth Forum was given an opportunity to ask questions and find out more about the available opportunities.
Makana Municipality Mayor Cllr Yandiswa Vara, encouraged young people to look for opportunities in the agriculture sector and take advantage of them.
One of the main reasons for the formation of this structure is to organise young people in all wards throughout Makana Municipality. The structure is intended to be an access point for young people and to ensure that there is a platform for young people to express themselves.
To celebrate Youth Month earlier this year, Makana Municipality put together a schedule to visit young people in their wards with the intention of accelerating youth development and establishing Ward Forums in all wards. On Youth Day the Executive Mayor met with the elected representatives from the wards that had already been visited. During that meeting the representatives had the opportunity to engage directly with the Executive Mayor about their wishes and vision for their different wards.
