The second edition of the Makana-Capitec Civic Awards is on and nomination forms are available. Capitec Bank is once again sponsoring the event and with their generous cash injection, the standard is set to exceed last year’s glitz and glamour.

The 2009 awards see the number of categories dropped from 12 to 4. However the new categories have been broadened and still cover almost all the initial categories. On top of the four winners, there will be a special prize for the overall winner. 

The following four categories have been identified:

1. Sports, Arts and Culture                  2. Economic Development and     Tourism
3. Community Service                         4. Environmental Conservation

The winners will be announced at a gala dinner which will be held on 12 December 2009. Capitec Bank is planning to bring in celebrities from the entertainment industry to entertain the guests.

The nomination process which entails the selection of candidates by the public opened on Friday, 9 October 2009 and closes on Friday, 13 November 2009. Nomination boxes will be placed at all public libraries, City Hall and at all Grahamstown branches of Capitec Bank. Nomination forms can also be collected at these places.
