Makana Municipality will on 20 August 2009 be visited by the MEC for Housing in the Province, Honorable Nombulelo Mabandla. The MEC announced on 18 August 2009 during a Housing MUNIMEC meeting in East London that she would be visiting our Municipality.

MUNIMEC is an intergovernmental forum that brings together the MEC, Mayors and their administrative officials to address housing challenges including spending allocated funds for housing development. This forum meets quarterly to identify and find solutions to any problems identified on sites.

She is expected to have discussions with the political leadership of the Municipality as well as some officials around housing related issues within Makana.

She will also visit the Eluxolweni Housing Project, which is near completion. The construction of these houses started early this year and they are fully serviced, that is they have water, sanitation and electricity.

The project was also targeted by the Department of Housing to provide hands-on training for youth in Makana as part of a skills transfer and capacity building programme aimed at fighting unemployment and shortage of skills particularly in the construction industry.
