Indeed the municipality needs to be involved in all the activities that take place in our municipality. This partnership between Rhodes University School of Journalism and the Makana Municipality is in line with government’s policy on forming Public-Private Partnerships for the development of our economy.
Mayor's speech for the media breakfast - 4 October 2007
Today our country is a totally different place than it was before the dawn of democracy in 1994. During the dark years of apartheid, our country was characterized by violence, unrest, uprisings, boycotts, etc – which were the main focus of the South African community and indeed the media. The media mainly focused on the political scenario and not as much attention was given to socio-economic issues.
